Slime Time

The Mad Science slime recipe is revealed in this ooey gooey chemistry class! Students will learn about slime and its basic ingredients in a series of hands-on activities. Varied concoctions of slime will stir up in scientific style, and the properties of slime will be tested in a team-spirited fashion at the Slime Olympics!

Optical Illusions

Sometimes our eyes play tricks on us. This workshop will help you understand the phenomenon of optical illusions. Several experiments await you to test your brain!

Watts-Up

With the help of a Van der Graff generator, you will experience different principles related to static electricity. You’ll leave with your hair standing on end!

Lights... Color... Action!

How do we know that a red apple is red? Light acts on objects and this is what you will discover during the experiments in this workshop. A rainbow will make an appearance during the workshop and you even find out what ultra-violet light is. Keep your eyes peeled!

Do you believe in magic? Discover how magical science can be and the science behind some basic magic tricks! Try out some Houdini chains, discover the science behind disappearing water and fool your friends in class with a very cool Curious Cube!

Fantastic Flyers

Take flight into the world of aeronautics as you discover how the 4 forces of flight help things soar into the sky. Build all kinds of paper aircraft and make a Skyhawk plane to take home to continue your high flying adventure!

Super Structures

Calling all junior engineers! Test out the basics of architectural design and structural engineering in this hands-on class about structures. Explore how triangles, arches and bridges shape our structures and apply some engineering to your very own bridge.

Dry Ice Capades

Dry ice—the star of the show—used in a series of tests, under the guidance of the instructor. Children use balloons to help visualize the volumetric difference between matter in solid and gaseous states.

Detective Science

The children examine fingerprints, mystery powders, ink samples, and teeth impressions. They also practice their memory skills to create a composite! Analyzing all the evidence is what helps pinpoint the perpetrator.

Lab Works

Students become lab scientists-in-training in this whirlwind program on laboratory techniques! Each student will learn to manipulate an assortment of lab equipment in a series of hands-on activities.

Magnetic Magic

How does the needle of a compass work? Using magnets, you will learn what exactly is magnetism. Different magnets will be used in order to test their usefulness and ability. In addition, you’ll make a mini electromagnet… and learn what exactly an electro magnet is!

Junior Reactors

A demonstration of the differences between physical and chemical reactions is followed by a hands-on series of experiments. The relative size of an atom is introduced in a cutting edge race as the children try to reduce a strip of paper down to its atomic size!

pH Phactor

Students explore the chemistry of acids and bases in this fascinating one-hour program on the pH scale. The Phantastic pH test is applied to common household chemicals.

Planets and Moons

Explore the farthest reaches of our solar system and create a lunar eclipse on our home planet. See the size difference between the Earth and its moon. Build your very own Mad Science Gravity Assisted Launcher to simulate how gravitational pull affects a probe in space.

Walloping Weather

A demonstration using heat sensitive paper and a flashlight brings to light the reasons for seasons. Children discover how air affects weather, and perform a test to prove that air is everywhere. Children try out tools that meteorologists use to measure weather. .

Robots

Mad Robots explores the concept that science and technology go hand in hand. Children circulate learning centers to control an automaton through sound, remote control and move a robot through a maze.

Space Travel

Learn what it takes to be a true globetrotter! Race a rocket and design your own car engine as you learn about thrust. See the principles of propulsion at work in a real rocket launch and build your very own Mad Science Space Copter to fly to the skies!

Heat

Heat has characteristics all its own. In this workshop, we will be able to explore how it behaves in different situations. Why does smoke rise upward? Why does our temperature increase when we rub our hands together? A workshop full of experiments and observations.

We will discover the role of the tongue and the nose when we savor our favorite dishes. Get ready to test your sense of taste and smell all the way to a sparkling finale!

We will explain the different principles related to sound and sound waves. How can we change our voice to sound like Darth Vader or a Chipmunk? Various sound exercises await us—keep your ears wide open!

Make a ball float in the air, create a miniature fountain, make water rise in a vase… Children will become more familiar with the different properties of air, pressure, and the vortex generator.

Here, we’ll have the chance to create our own wave bottle. The spectacular properties of water and problem-solving techniques related to water pollution will be demystified.

Insects!

We are budding entomologists! Let’s discover the differences between insects and arthropods by observing the anatomy of real specimens. Using ultraviolet powder, we’ll imitate bees as they spread pollen from flowers.

Earthworks

Let’s dig into the heart of Earth sciences to analyze different types of rocks and see what they’re made of and where they were formed. We’ll observe fluorescent minerals and even recreate an earthquake!

Crazy Machines!

Together, we’ll discover how simple machines make our lives easier: the screw, lever, inclined plane, wedge, pulley, and wheel and axle. How does a catapult work? Plenty of hands-on activities await!

Film Effects

We’ll let young participants sit in the director’s chair to discover the science behind the big stars of cinema and understand the visual and sound effects in their favorite movies. We’ll even explore the science behind 3D films and discover what a flipbook (folioscope) is.

Toy Science

We’ll have the chance to test, play with, and question how different types of toys work. Toys that spin in all directions, change colors, store energy, or operate using magnetism—so many toys and mechanisms to discover!

Super Sticky Stuff

Kids will be “stuck” on science after this one-hour class all about everything that sticks! The workshop begins with a close look at how hook-and-loop Velcro fasteners work. Students will test different types of glue and discover their specific uses. And it’s not just glue that sticks—students will find that out by the end of this sticky workshop!

Animals

The animal kingdom, habitats, anatomy, and lifestyles of our favorite animals will be revealed in this workshop. Together, we’ll explore camouflage techniques and nocturnal behaviors.

Life in the sea

Identify the creatures that inhabit the oceans and the characteristics that allow them to live underwater. Discover marine habitats through experiments with seawater, and observe some marine specimens.
